THE NEED
To optimize efficiency, you need the ability to image enable your current applications and to integrate workflow/BPM into your current environment. You don’t need another interface; you need the power of a fully-integrated ECM and workflow solution behind your current applications and/or portals.
THE DOCFINITY SOLUTION
The Web Services API, which is included in the DocFinity Core, enables users to tap into the functionality of the DocFinity suite from within their own familiar software applications, regardless of the language or platform they employ. Users subsequently have more options for retrieving, manipulating, processing, and workflowing information without the cumbersome learning curve that is associated with obtaining software from a new vendor.
Thanks to the universal standard of Web services, users have access to more powerful tools. At the same time, they can spend their time working efficiently with applications they already know and understand rather than having to learn new software.
The flexibility of DocFinity’s Web services architecture makes it possible for users to call the DocFinity API from their own Web sites, portals, and server processes. Customers can link to—and pass back and forth—data from the DocFinity API, using virtually any development language. This allows users to import, retrieve, and view documents from DocFinity, start DocFinity workflows, and get DocFinity reports all from their own company Web sites, portals, or applications. In-house company applications can even be set up to trigger workflows without the end user being aware of these changes.
HOW IT WORKS
The Web Services API can be called from a variety of platforms—Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, etc., and from a variety of languages (including Visual Basic, .NET, C#, Java, and more). Users of the Web Services API automatically benefit from the same reliable security systems that are available to users of the DocFinity client. In other words, API users have the same security that is associated with a non-Web-based environment. As new functionality is added to the DocFinity client applications, customers using the Web Services API will have access to these same capabilities within their own software applications. Work assignments and file access are controlled through the API's session management and authentication.
The introduction of Web services dramatically improved the effectiveness and speed of integration. Moreover, it became possible to perform multiple integrations simultaneously, while almost nullifying the integration responsibilities for the organizations using these services. By eliminating the IT person’s integration responsibilities through the implementation of non-proprietary Web services, companies now have access to a powerful set of tools that provides a significant return on investment. Through Web services, organizations can save substantial time and money, enabling client IT resources to be used where they are needed (and will be most effective) within an organization.
Although changes in standards may still emerge, Web services are based on standards and technologies that have been successfully in operation for more than a decade. These technologies have been employed effectively by Optical Image Technology in Fortune 500 companies and Big Ten universities as well as smaller operations.
