COLD-ERM: Computer Output to Laser Disk – Enterprise Report Management: How it Works
DocFinity COLD-ERM monitors a directory for print streams sent from your print spooler to the printer. Once the print stream is captured, it is automatically indexed, filed, and available immediately to end users. Overlay templates are stored and managed, making it possible to include trademark layouts and logos on invoices, statements, and other documents.
DocFinity includes seven reports management modules, each differentiated by the type of print stream (ASCII, EBCDIC, IBM AFP, Xerox Metacode/DJDE, Postscript/PDF and PCL) and the desired output for reports (TIFF and PDF). Multiple indexes are user-defined, giving you the flexibility to store and retrieve information in a way that works for you. DocFinity COLD-ERM offers:
- The ability to automate data extraction. Indexing includes 150 user-defined Column Keys and 150 user-defined Page Keys.
- Graphical Report Definition. Define reports by simply highlighting the area to be used as an index and pressing the SAVE button. You can even create a standard template to use when defining new reports.
- Graphical Forms Overlay. “Attach” a graphical form overlay that looks just like the original form on which your data was printed. A single overlay can be assigned to multiple reports or a single report can have multiple overlays (based on date). You can even have a different overlay for viewing, printing, and faxing.
- Flexible Index Extraction. 150 indexes of 128 characters each can be defined. The indexes can be exported for analysis or imported into the DocFinity COLD-ERM database front end for report retrieval. Files that have been converted to PDF or TIFF format can be trigger-indexed.
- Exporting Information. Users can retrieve information from their server via push or pull technology. For example, DocFinity can be programmed to process a report at night, set up the indexes, and “push” or extract the indexes into the SQL database for review. “Pull” technology is when the user asks the server directly to extract the indexes.
- Modular Design for easy integration with other software packages (i.e. accounting software, POS software).
- Compression and storage of line data in a data repository. Indexes to pages or page ranges are extracted from the report and stored within a SQL database, enabling your end users to easily and quickly get to the page or page range that they need.
- Dynamic Data Exchange libraries are included.
- The ability to graphically define the column indices for the currently active report.
